How to Use the Topcon GTS-300 Electronic Total Station
The Topcon GTS-300 is a series of electronic total stations that can measure angles and distances with high accuracy and speed. The GTS-300 series consists of four models: GTS-301D, GTS-302D, GTS-303D, and GTS-303. These instruments are designed for various surveying applications, such as topography, construction, engineering, and cadastral surveys.
If you are looking for a user manual for the Topcon GTS-300 series, you can download it from the official website of Topcon Positioning Systems. The manual provides detailed instructions on how to set up, operate, and maintain the instrument. It also explains the functions and features of the instrument, such as angle measurement, distance measurement, coordinate measurement, remote elevation measurement, missing line measurement, offset measurement, and special modes.
In this article, we will give you a brief overview of how to use the Topcon GTS-300 electronic total station. We will cover some basic steps and tips that will help you get started with your surveying tasks.
Preparations for Measurement
Before you start measuring with the Topcon GTS-300, you need to prepare the instrument and the accessories. Here are some things you need to do:
Check the power connection. The instrument can be powered by an internal handle battery (BT-24Q) or an external power source (BT-3Q or BT-3L). Make sure the battery is fully charged and connected properly.
Level the instrument. Mount the instrument on a tripod and use the circular level and the plate level to adjust the horizontal position of the instrument. The instrument should be leveled within Â10'.
Turn on the power switch. Press and hold the [PWR] key for about two seconds until the display turns on. The instrument will perform a self-check and show the initial display.
Check the remaining battery capacity. The battery indicator on the display shows how much power is left in the battery. If the indicator flashes or shows \"LO BAT\", you need to replace or recharge the battery.
Set the vertical angle tilt correction. The instrument has a tilt sensor that can correct the vertical angle measurement for errors caused by inclination of the instrument. You can turn this function on or off by pressing [MENU] and selecting [TILT ON/OFF].
Angle Measurement
The Topcon GTS-300 can measure horizontal and vertical angles with high precision and speed. You can choose between two modes of angle measurement: right mode or left mode. In right mode, the horizontal angle is measured clockwise from zero to 360Â. In left mode, the horizontal angle is measured counterclockwise from zero to 360Â.
To measure a horizontal angle right and a vertical angle, follow these steps:
Aim at a target point with the telescope and focus it by turning the focusing knob.
Press [HOR] to enter right mode. The display will show \"R\" next to the horizontal angle value.
Press [0SET] to set zero for the horizontal angle. The display will show \"0Â00'00\".\"
Rotate the instrument horizontally to aim at another target point.
Press [HOLD] to hold the horizontal angle value. The display will show \"H\" next to the horizontal angle value.
Press [V%] to measure the vertical angle. The display will show \"V\" next to the vertical angle value.
To measure a horizontal angle left and a vertical angle, follow these steps:
Aim at a target point with the telescope and focus it by turning the focusing knob.
Press [HOR] twice to enter left mode. The display will show \"L\" next to the horizontal angle value.
Press [0SET] to set zero for the horizontal angle. The display will show \"0Â00'00\".\"
Rotate the instrument horizontally to aim at another target point.
